I’ve been working since I was 11 years old in all sorts of positions, just trying to earn some money and support myself as best as possible.
I’ve worked at horse barns, in retail positions, and in scientific research laboratories, but none of them have ever seemed like something I could do for the rest of my life.
Just recently I’ve embarked on a major life change and decided to try to follow my passions, rather than following occupations that don’t satisfy me. I’m really lucky to be able to make this attempt, and I love the jobs I’m pursuing currently. I get to stay at home and write all day long, and I feel great about what I’m doing. The only thing that I don’t love is how cold it gets sitting still all day, staring at a computer. I’ve tried wrapping myself up in extra layers of clothing and blankets, but I don’t feel like any heat is being trapped from my body. I don’t want to adjust the thermostat, because it would heat the entire house rather than simply the room that I work out of and that’s a huge energy waste. I know that we can’t afford zone controlled heating right now, since my income is drastically lower than it used to be, so I feel like I’m stuck being chilly all day long for the time being. The only solution I’ve found is to gather all my electric space heaters around my desk, and bask in the warm net that they create in my makeshift office.
